Yellow wax stone exhibits a diverse range of structural types, which can be classified as follows:
Wavy textures generally appear as massive beds, though in the field, the protolith often presents as thin layers. Specimens frequently display wavy or pseudo-stratified textures with visible small bubbles along the lines, suggesting they may represent primary bedding. The curvature of these textures may be linked to submarine creep-folding-that is, folding caused by downslope sliding during sedimentation.
"Pockmarked" structures (or pitted textures) commonly appear on specific surfaces or within depressions, manifesting as small, concave pits measuring 0.5–2.0 mm in diameter. These pits are typically unfilled (though sometimes traces of white powdery minerals remain) and generally irregular-circular in shape. Such pockmarked structures are widespread and serve as a characteristic feature of yellow wax stone.
Cavity structures consist of irregular hollow voids ranging from 1 to 5 cm in diameter; the walls of these cavities often exhibit the aforementioned pockmarked texture. Due to the presence of these cavities, weathered, fragmented, and eroded yellow wax stones often take on unique, ornamental shapes.
