"Sculpted stone" refers to artificial rockwork created using materials such as cement-based mortar, wire mesh, or Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GRC). The process involves constructing a mountain-shaped framework from steel rebar, covering it with wire mesh, and then applying a base coat, performing secondary sculpting, and finishing with a "natural stone-effect" spray coating. The surface can mimic the texture of natural rock, while crevices can be filled with soil for planting or adorned with decorative elements to enhance the landscape's visual appeal.
The "stone sculpting" method originated as a unique rock-stacking technique in Lingnan gardens; it later evolved into the direct sculpting of forms using cement mortar. Modern applications also widely utilize materials such as Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GRC) to create structures like TCP (Texture-Coated Polymer) sculpted rockwork and GRC rockeries.
A new type of sculpted stone is manufactured by processing a mixture of lightweight materials-including resins, reinforcing agents, and pigments-and curing them via high-temperature steam. These stones are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, weather-resistant, and offer excellent protective qualities; they require no wall-base support during installation. Their surfaces undergo waterproofing treatment and possess dust-repellent, self-cleaning properties, making them suitable for use in park rockeries, waterfall landscapes, highway entrance markers, and theme park scenery.
